Bone Grafting in Antalya: Building the Foundation for Your Perfect Smile

A strong, healthy jawbone is the essential foundation for the long-term success of dental implants. However, following tooth loss, the bone in that area naturally begins to shrink and deteriorate—a process called resorption. For patients who have been missing teeth for a long time or have suffered from advanced gum disease, this can leave insufficient bone to securely place an implant.

Fortunately, modern dentistry offers a highly predictable solution: dental bone grafting. At our clinic in Antalya, our surgical experts perform advanced bone grafting procedures to restore and regenerate the lost bone, making it possible for virtually anyone to become a candidate for dental implants.

What is Bone Grafting and Why is it Necessary?

A dental bone graft is a surgical procedure used to augment or replace missing bone in the jaw. It is most commonly performed to prepare a site for a dental implant, but can also be used to repair bone damaged by trauma or periodontal disease.

The primary reasons you might need a bone graft include:

  • Long-Term Tooth Loss: The jawbone requires the stimulation of chewing to maintain its volume. Once a tooth is lost, this stimulation ceases, and the bone begins to shrink.
  • Advanced Gum Disease (Periodontitis): This chronic infection can destroy the supportive bone around the teeth, leading to instability and tooth loss.
  • Trauma or Injury: An accident that results in a knocked-out tooth can also damage the surrounding bone.

Without a bone graft to restore the proper height and width of the jawbone, a dental implant cannot be safely and securely placed, compromising the final result.

The Bone Grafting Procedure: What to Expect

A bone grafting procedure is a common and comfortable outpatient surgery performed under local anesthesia.

  1. Step 1: Consultation & 3D Imaging (CBCT Scan): A comprehensive 3D CBCT scan is taken to precisely measure your existing bone volume and determine the exact amount and type of grafting material needed.
  2. Step 2: The Grafting Procedure: After the area is completely numb, your surgeon will make a small incision in the gum to expose the bone. The bone grafting material, which acts as a scaffold for new growth, is then placed in the deficient area. This is often covered with a special collagen membrane to protect the graft and encourage proper healing.
  3. Step 3: Healing & New Bone Growth: This is the most critical phase. Over the next 4 to 9 months, your body will naturally replace the grafting material with your own new, strong, and dense bone. This process creates a solid, stable foundation ready to support a dental implant.

Common Bone Grafting Techniques in Antalya

Our clinic is equipped to handle all types of bone regeneration needs, including the most common and effective techniques for dental tourists.

Socket Preservation

This is a proactive procedure performed at the same time as a tooth extraction. Grafting material is placed directly into the empty socket to prevent the immediate bone loss that typically follows an extraction, making a future implant placement much simpler.

Sinus Lift (Sinus Augmentation)

This is a specialized bone graft for the upper back jaw. When upper molars are lost, the maxillary sinus cavity can expand downwards, leaving very little bone to place an implant. A sinus lift procedure gently raises the sinus floor, and grafting material is placed underneath to create the necessary bone height for implants.

Bone loss should not be a barrier to the permanent, beautiful smile you deserve. Contact our surgical experts in Antalya for a detailed evaluation and to learn how bone grafting can make dental implants a reality for you.

Socket Preservation

Performed immediately after a tooth extraction, this procedure prevents bone collapse and creates the ideal site for a future dental implant, simplifying the process.

Sinus Lift / Augmentation

A specialized procedure to add bone to the upper back jaw when the sinus has expanded, making it possible to place implants in an area that was previously untreatable.

Ridge Augmentation

This technique is used to increase the width and/or height of the jawbone ridge to provide a strong and wide enough base to support dental implants securely.

3D CBCT Scan & Surgical Planning

We use advanced 3D CBCT scans for every case to precisely map your anatomy and digitally plan the bone grafting procedure for maximum safety and predictable success.
